Here We Go: New York City

Here we are!!! Finally starting our own blog.  We have both wanted to write about our travels, and read about other people's travels, and this just seemed like the best way to do so. We are about to leave on our biggest adventure to date in a week, a twenty day trip to Europe.  We have been to quite a few places, both on our own and together.  So here is our first big trip we ever went on together, a trip to New York and Boston, June 2012.

Our first day,  we caught a day game at Yankee Stadium, they were playing the Atlanta Braves.  Being kids who loved baseball and who grew up in the 90's, seeing Chipper Jones during his final season was a great honor.  Even though the stadium we were in was the "new" Yankee Stadium, it still had an old feel to it, which is something we both found interesting.  Being huge Oakland A's fans, Matt and I stood out without any pinstripes on, but we could not bring ourselves to buy anything with a Yankee logo on it.

While we were at the stadium we got to spend time in the Yankee Museum.  That was such an unreal experience, seeing a wall of signed baseballs from every Yankee who had ever worn the uniform, countless trophies and of course the World Series rings all made for such a great experience.

The Yankee game was a perfect start to our trip, from there on it was a whirlwind.  I wish we had a pedometer to see how much we walked, we were all over the city.  Luckily we saved money by being able to stay with Matt's brother and his wife while we were in the city, which meant we were able to see more and take them to a great dinner at The Red Rooster in Harlem, (Suzanna got a reservation months in advance in anticipation for a night with us).  We took a tour by boat on the Hudson River, went to a concert at the Bowery Ballroom, visited the 9/11 Memorial, stood at the top of the Empire State Building, walked Central Park, became pros on the Subway, and saw Chicago on Broadway.  On top of all of that we still got in full days at the MOMA, the Met, and the Natural History Museum.

With Home Alone being one of my favorite movies, of course I had to check out the Plaza Hotel on one of our many walks through Central Park.

While on this trip we decided to try all new beers(which wasn't even hard at all) even though multiple bars were so excited they just got Sierra Nevada and Lagunitas.

Like many people, I remember where I was when I found out about what happened on September 11, 2001.  That day has changed the world we live in and being at the site where it happened was so moving.  The mix of emotions while seeing and being there was over whelming.

Our next adventure brought us to the Empire State Building, but I didn't fill Matt in on this until we were there because he is afraid of heights.  I'm sure it wasn't easy for him, but he did it like a champ! The view from the top is amazing.  Seeing the city from above like that reminds us how small we really are.

The last night we were there we had a chance to see a taping of our favorite late night show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where we got to see Emma Stone and Dwyane Wade.  After we took the elevator to Top of the Rock and saw a great view of NYC at night, capping off a great week.

We had a great time in New York, and to think that was only half of our trip!  Next on the agenda was our trip to Boston to see another great baseball stadium, and visit some friends!
