The Traveling Two: Caribbean Rum & Belikin & Lobsterfest= Belize

After we landed in Belize City, every taxi driver was trying to get our attention, actually everyone was trying to get our attention. We ended up walking up to one of the quieter drivers, and asked him how much to the water taxis. I don't remember how much it was, but whatever it was, it sounded reasonable. We jumped into his jeep, tried to buckle up, and realized there were no seat belts. He drove us around Belize City, because it was a safer route, and right to the water taxis. On to the water taxi, this thing was horrible. It wasn't comfortable, didn't seem very safe, and was the most bumpy ride ever. If they have speed limits on the water, our driver wasn't following it, we were moving all over. Once we could see land we were starting to get excited, but we soon realized it wasn't Ambergris Caye, it was Caye Caulker. What seemed like forever later, we were pulling up to Ambergris Caye. From there, it was another interesting taxi drive, we were told by where we were staying we would be picked up by a taxi driver, but there were tons of drivers and had no idea which one was for us. Matt had to go into an internet cafe and call our driver, luckily the guy inside was helpful and let him do all this for no charge. While waiting for our driver, Matt took it upon himself to get the party started, he walked over to a grocery store and got a case of Belikin(the local beer) and a bottle of rum. The total for all of this was so cheap from what we are used to here in the states, we decided we had to take advantage of this while on vacation! Once the taxi picked us up we were to our place a short while later. (Another car with no seat belts, we were noticing a trend)

Matt and Shae told us there was a crocodile in the water out front of our room, but Kiki and I didn't believe them. Well, they were right.

Our favorite place to swim was off of dock in front of a yoga retreat called Akbol. They had some of the best food on the island, these were our favorites, it's called a breakfast jack. Another plus to this place, if you are a customer, you can use their pool!

Our favorite place to hang out and drink we actually discovered on our first night adventuring around. It is called Feliz Bar & Grill, and it was owned by a couple who were from Missouri. This couple not only made the best drinks and wings, they saved us by making some calls and getting us a place to stay and arranging for us to get a golf cart. Which was a lifesaver! Also, we could stay up to date with our favorite sports, and got to watch every game of the Stanley Cup. I think we may have mastered the breakfast shot(tastes like pancakes), but I still want to know how to make the Feliz shot! Here's a couple pictures from our good times at Feliz.

It is also totally acceptable to have a beer in your golf cart while driving around the island.

One of the coolest bars on the island is a place called Palapa. This bar is actually on the end of the dock, in the Caribbean! At this bar, you can float in inner tubes and get your drinks lowered to you in a bucket, how cool is that?! We had some good times at this bar, and also got caught in the middle of one of the many rainstorms.

Our boss even came along and loved Belize!

The whole time we were on the island we were (more so Matt and Shae) on a search for a place that had something called Viper Rum and Scorpion Rum. These rums have either a live viper or a live scorpion dropped in them. Viper Rum is "For Real Men Only" where Scorpion Rum is "For Women Only". We had seen it on a show we all watch called "Drinking Made Easy". On this show he travels to different countries and tries the local drinks. We found it, and even though they knew it would be gross, they both did it!

As we were walking along the beach one day, we came across a guy getting coconuts. He gave us one and even posed for a picture. Fresh coconut water is amazing, especially after lots of island rum!

Sunday Funday at Crazy Canucks is a MUST. Great drinks, great music, and tons of fun.

We were also lucky enough to be in San Pedro for Lobsterfest. This was AWESOME, and a huge party. You can get just about lobster anything, and most of the restaurants had booths serving their specialty food and drinks.
